Hotel Supply Show - Myrtle Beach, SC

I was fortunate enough to attend the the Hotel and Hotel Supply Show of the Southeast in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday and Wednesday. There were over 300 suppliers and hoteliers in attendance. I was able to network with folks about art trends and what they are seeing in new properties. I learned that botanical prints, black and white and sepia tones are popular right now. Spending time with the folks from Hatchett Hospitality was a real plus. They were the designers of the Holiday Inn Express in Mt. Pleasant, SC. I also made a good contact with Carlson Hotels as well as some contract framers. I made many more contacts in these two days than I could have after weeks on the phone.

The site will currently link to my www.EarthscapesPhoto.com/charleston site but eventually will have it's own content. Atlanta Skyline Shooting

I've spent last night and this morning shooting in downtown Atlanta for a potential hotel renovation project. It is great to get out of my comfort zone of shooting in natural landscapes. The urban environment is challenging but fun. Got a nice vantage point last night on an overpass at Freedom Parkway overlooking downtown. I love blurring the car lights as they whizz below on the highway. This mornings sunrise was a little uneventful but it gave me time to scout out downtown and get my bearings. Hopefully, with a week of shooting up here, I can provide the client with the images they want for their property. I will post a pic of the skyline when I return home next week.

JD Cummings~Photographer and Philosopher

Today I went to the celebration of life ceremony for JD Cummings from whom i took a class in 2004 at the Gibbes. Prior to that time, i had been running around Charleston pointing and shooting in auto mode. What i came out of that class with was much more. Not just from a photography perspective, but from a life perspective. JD was as much of a life teacher as he was a photography instructor. In the class, he talked a lot about photographing his Father in his last years. At the ceremony, we were privileged enough to see some shots of JD in front of the hospice center taking photos as he loved to do. On the photography side of his class, he taught you everything you needed to know plus some. A little voice will come to me while I'm shooting, reminding me what I should be doing. I'll never blur another waterfall that i won't be reminded that JD taught me what shutter speed is. Here are a few of my favorite quotes from JD Cummings- the philosopher:

Holiday Inn Express- Mt. Pleasant Opening tomorrow 11/19/2009

I'm excited about the opening of the Holiday Inn Express in Mt. Pleasant, SC. This project is the first "green" hotel in South Carolina. The decor of this beautiful hotel was a collaboration between Palmetto Commercial Properties, InterContinental Hotel Group, Hatchett Hospitality, Earthscapes Photography and IMC Framed Art. This represents my first major project within the Hospitality industry. It was a privilege to have been chosen to supply the artwork for this project. They chose images of the Ravenel Bridge, Isle of Palms marsh and sunset over the Charleston Harbor.

I will be selling my photography at two events this weekend. On Saturday, November 14th, I will be at the Dunes West Holiday Craft Show at the Club at Dunes West in Mt. Pleasant. The show hours are from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. I will have some of my newer works from the West Coast on display.
